{DIY Tutorial} 5 Minute Wreath Tutorial!

Yes you heard that right. 5 minutes. That is all it took me to make this darling wreath for the back of our front door (yes there is a wreath on the inside AND outside of our door).

Here is what you need:

1. Straw Wreath (this one is from Michaels)

2. Scraps of fabric.

3. Stick Pins

4. Anything you would like to embellish it with. (our flower is from Hobby Lobby)

5. Ribbon

Step 1: Wrap the scrap of fabric around the wreath

Step 2: Secure fabric tightly and pin using stick pins.

Step 3: Take next piece of fabric and wrap, tucking ends in so they look finished. Slightly overlap your fabric for the straw can not be seen.

Step 4: Repeat until the wreath is covered in fabric and is pinned tightly

Step 5: Cut a piece of your ribbon to create a large loop to hang it with. Pin in place (pin to the back of the wreath)

Step 6: Embellish with flowers, trim or ribbon! Ours had a huge alligator clip on it so I just slid it right on.

I would love to see your 5 minute wreath! Who’s up for it?? Email me pictures to rebekah@ablissfulnest.com and we will share them on our facebook page.

{Inspiration} Fall Decorating

Have you decorated for Fall yet? I feel like I may be one of the last ones to do it. But I have been collecting ideas for a while and when I get back in town next week it is up on my list. I love all the fall wreaths out there. There have been some unusual ones like this one of maize corn.

And how about this one with mini pumpkins.

My friend Lili of Swanky Chic Fete posted about some fabulous wreaths on her blog yesterday. Hope you caught it but if not pop in HERE to check it out.

I am also crushing on these front porches that are decorated so simple. Meaning not a lot of color but using the natural tones of straw, wheat, and burnt orange/yellow colors of flowers. LOVE this idea of using a variety of tones in the same colors.

I wish we had a mantel! But instead I have a chest in our front living room with a mirror above and I think I decorate this area like I would if it had a fireplace underneath. So I love these ideas that I could use in my space too.

Over sized floral/branch arrangements coming out of a tall vase. I love this idea because I actually change the arrangement to match the different seasons.

I am also so into the idea of painting/stenciling, hot gluing ribbon/etc onto my pumpkins this year. Here are a few of my favs.

{Tutorial} Fall Burlap Wreath

I am such a fan of burlap. I love how rustic and warm it feels and I love that it is imperfect. I have been dying to try a burlap wreath tutorial and loved THIS ONE by Linda at Craftaholics Anonymous. She is one of my crafting idols by the way! Now I have a beautiful new wreath for the approaching fall season.

And it was so easy! This is all you need:

-14″ foam wreath

-1-1/2 yards of burlap

-scissors

-ruler

-glitter glue (optional to add to the tips of the burlap strips or to the flowers)

Measure and cut out strips of burlap, roughly 2″x16″long.

Next tie your strips around the wreath. (told you this was super easy!) Make sure to tie them close together so you don’t see your wreath below. I like my wreaths to look really full so this helps in achieving that too.

When you are done with all the tieing you will have something that looks like this:

Now you can either stop there and just tie a chunky ribbon on the top or you can keep going, which is what I did! I adore Emily of Jones Design Company and she has MANY flower tutorials. I have been wanting to try a few and thought this was the perfect time to do it. So I chose THIS ONE and THIS ONE. Instead of using paper like she did in the second one I used felt. Here is what you need:

-felt

-scissors

-glue gun

Follow Emily’s tutorials to a tee (her tutorials are so detail oriented there was no need for me to recreate them for you) and you will have this:

I do wish the rosette on the left was not as tight and a little looser like the other one but it gives it a little character and adds to the imperfection of the burlap itself.

I think you maybe seeing more from me with felt. I love it and I have never crafted with it before. So a new love affair has started!
