{BN Black Book Of Parties} Little Mermaid Arial Inspired Birthday Party

A while back ago one of our sweet clients, Heather of Sweet Boochie sent us photos of her daughter’s Little Mermaid Ariel Inspired Birthday Party and I about died. It is too cute and I love how original and different her sweets table is from most Little Mermaid parties I have seen out there.

Here is a little bit of what Heather said about creating this magical party:

Heather said- “Our daughter Ana, requested a little mermaid (Ariel inspired) theme for her 5th birthday party this year. Character parties can always be a challenge to make them look whimsical and beautiful yet familiar to what the child knows is the character. I decided to use princess Ariel as inspiration for the color scheme (sea foam green, coral and lavender). My goal was to have each guest feel as though they were a princess mermaid under the sea…so to make this happen, my wonderfully talented mother-in-law sewed fifteen costumes and a dress up tent for all the guests to change in. As guests walked in they were transformed into a mermaid, with their outfits and a headband that I made by hot gluing a starfish onto a Dollar Tree purple headband.

I really felt the sand dunes were iconic of the beach, so I decided to make beach signs and “sand dunes” to mark each activity/game. I did this using free scrap wood from our local wood supply store and some old ceiling paint that I mixed with water and rubbed on with an old T-shirt to give it a white wash effect. I then placed the lovely printable signs (designed by Rebekah at A Blissful Nest) in a Pottery Barn Kids matte frame and tacked it to the wood post. My husband helped place sand and an old picket fence we had around the sign and I embellished with shells and tall grass. These signs marked the activities of dress up, making pearl bracelets, finding a pearl game, and a pass the treasure game.

For the dessert table, I wanted it to reflect the bottom of the sea, and the hidden treasures that mermaids find from a sunken ship. So I was thrilled to find the hand mirror at a local goodwill, and the fork I had to resemble the “dingle hopper” that Ariel finds to “comb” her hair. All the desserts I made myself. Our oldest daughter has food allergies, so it’s important I can make all the desserts safe for her to eat as well.

{BN Black Book of Parties} Boho Chic 1st Birthday Party

Hello again, A Blissful Nest readers! Holly here from Paisley Petal Events. I hope you all enjoyed the holidays and were able to spend some precious time with friends and family. I definitely enjoyed the break and was able to spend some much needed time with my family over the last week and a half. Now back to all things party!

Today’s featured party is a beautiful Boho Chic 1st Birthday Party created by Candace of Candy and Cake, for her daughter Ava. The inspiration for Ava’s party came from her nursery, which is decorated in a similar theme with bright aqua, green and yellow colors.

As Candace described it, “it was a bright and cheery color scheme adding in a few exotic elements and a little hippie vibe to the mix.” She used a beautiful fabric backdrop that matched Ava’s crib comforter and added some DIY elements such as the yarn-wrapped letter and yarn garlands to the dessert display.

Candace is the creator of all of the beautiful desserts on the table, which included the fabulous centerpiece cake, the cute smash cake, oreo truffle pops, lemon bars, key lime cupcakes, chocolate covered oreos and darling sugar cookies.

{BN Black Book of Parties} Ladybug Party

Today’s featured party comes from the talented Helen Guzman from bonito design. I love the ladybug theme for a sweet little 3 year old and the addition of pink, yellow and green to the red and white polka dots make it a little different than the traditional red, white and black ladybug colors.

I love the simple cake with the darling doll cake topper – isn’t she precious?!

Helen created flowers out of tissue fans to resemble the invitation, a very nice touch.

Cute little lady bugs could be spotted throughout the party.

Plates resembling the shape of a flower were placed on red and white polka dot paper along with coordinating napkins, drink wraps and a pink striped straw.

And the birthday girl who matches the cake topper just perfectly – so fun!!

Thanks so much for letting us share your cute party with our readers, Helen!

{BN Black Book of Parties} Picnic 1st Birthday Party

Michelle from Little Miss Party Planner sent us pics of a 1st birthday party they recently created with a fun theme for summer – a Picnic Party indoors! These ladies always do a fabulous job creating “Big Events in Small Spaces” which is exactly what they’ve done for this party on the 30th floor of a New York apartment building. You may recall that we featured some of their past parties here on the blog, including the Legally 18 and Winter One-derland parties, which were both beautiful.

Their vision was to bring an outdoor picnic indoors using the traditional picnic color palette of cherry red, emerald green, sunflower yellow and pearl white. The food table setup was simple: a picnic on a sunny day in the park.  They began with an ivory burlap table cloth and onto this added a roll of fake grass from Home Depot, which we spread out on the table. For the kiddies, pigs in a blanket were displayed in a red mini Radio Flyer wagon and popcorn chicken bites served with homemade BBQ and Honey Mustard dipping sauces.

The adults were given a selection of delicious sandwiches and salads from which to choose.

I love how they served the crudite – they decided to skewer each piece, and display it all in glass cubes.  To make this happen, they used foam cubes covered in lettuce leaves and cut so they fit snugly inside each glass cube.   The skewers were then stuck into the foam cubes and covered with more lettuce to complete the look.  Served with caramelized onion and chive dip in a classic terracotta pot, the modern crudite display was a huge hit!

To stay with the picnic theme, they used red plastic burger baskets lined with red and white gingham liners for each guest.  Bamboo cutlery was wrapped in bright yellow napkins and stacked in wooden baskets, lined with red and white striped cloth napkins.  Ketchup and Mustard was served from nostalgic red and yellow squeeze bottles.

Another one of my favorite elements – the flower arrangements. They used a watermelon as a vase for pretty white lisianthus, a cherry red pail filled with bright yellow sunflowers and an old glass coke bottle containing yellow billy balls. This floral display is so fun and casual – just perfect for a summer picnic.

To create the backdrop for the food table and continuing the indoor picnic theme, they strung white tissue poms along the window to resemble clouds and bright yellow balloons for the sun.

Sitting on the table next to the food display was a darling #1 board, which was created by covering a foam board with red gingham fabric and sunflowers attached to the board to create the #1 shape.

The party included a couple of different drink stations, including one for the kids and one for the adults. Lemonade was served in glass mason jars adorned with a fun yellow and white striped straw, a party flag and a lemon. Adults could enjoy a selection of beer, wine, Prosecco, Coke and water, all of which were displayed in galvanized buckets and coordinated just right. I love the addition of sunflowers to the drink buckets.

Desserts included oreo and strawberry cheesecake bites along with the darling corn on the cob cupcakes and a simple, but perfect vanilla cake with a beautiful sunflower on top.

Little guests took home a container of bubbles placed inside a simple kraft bag filled with yellow and white tissue paper – a wonderful favor for small children!

Another fabulous party created by the ladies at Little Miss Party Planner – they did such a wonderful job creating the look and feel of an outdoor picnic inside a Manhattan aparment. Thanks for sharing with us!
