{BN Black Book of Parties} Vintage School Baby Shower

Today’s featured party is fun, unique theme for a baby shower that you don’t see every day – it’s a Vintage School baby shower created by our friend Jen from Sweeten Your Day Events! Jen wanted to throw a baby shower for a close friend of hers, but since it was her 2nd baby, she didn’t want something really big. Jen decided on an intimate luncheon with some of their closest friends.

The backdrop for the dessert table included an old window frame with vintage paper inset into each pane. Vintage flash cards strung onto twine with clothespins were used to create the darling bunting. Additional vintage school themed accessories used throughout the party included wood letter blocks, books, apples and flash cards – so cute!!

Jen’s inspiration for the dessert table was her own sack lunches she used to have as a kid – which usually included a pb&j sandwich, an apple, cookies and a carton of milk. Desserts for the shower included peanut butter and jelly bars, mini apple pies and cookies and milk parfait’s – genius!!

For lunch, guests were served their meal in a brown paper sack and included a chicken salad croissant sandwich, chips, salad and a fruit cup with letter cookies. Jen used a paper doily and a sweet pink ribbon to embellish the paper sacks.

The fun invitation definitely set the tone for the school-themed baby shower.

{BN Black Book of Parties} Election Gender Reveal Party

I love gender reveal parties! We featured a fun “What will it Bee?” party earlier this year here on A Blissful Nest.

My cute friend (and fellow ABN contributor) Jen from Sweeten Your Day Events created this fun and very timely Election themed gender reveal party last month for her family. She and her husband knew the sex of the baby, but hadn’t told anyone else yet. Her son really wanted a baby brother and her daughter just wants a baby!

The idea at the party was that guests could cast their vote for what they think the baby will be and at the end of the party, the ‘official results’ envelope was opened to reveal the gender – so fun!

Of course, guests got their own “I voted” sticker!

Jen set up a small area where guests could vote and grab some fun treats, including ‘vote’ cake pops and yummy sugar cookies. Jen creates amazing cakes!  I just love the simple white cake with pretty icing and the cute bunting flags.

So fun, creative and simple – I love it! Curious what the official results were??? Head over to Jen’s blog to find out! ;-)

Thanks for letting us share your fun party with our readers, Jen and congrats on the upcoming arrival!!

{New Collection} Ahoy It’s A Boy Baby Shower

I can not tell you how much I wanted to do this collection! I love anything preppy and coastal design is a favorite of mine. So I really played up that Hamptons/Connecticut feel into this collection.

I used tailored pin stripes mixed with a powder blue wide stripe mixed with a classic red. Vintage pieces were added to give it that classic fee. Some of these I have had for years! My favorite pieces are this old suitcase and red garden table I got at the Rosebowl fleamarket years ago.

Desserts were kept simple. I am smitten with donut towers/cakes these days and think they are so easy to recreate! Just layer donuts, stack as high as you want to go and embellish with a flower or ribbon.

With the donuts I had 2 kinds of cupcakes; lemon and a raspberry fill. Yum! And of course the staple dessert- cake pops. Some rock candy is great to use as stir sticks for coffee and I love the look and color of the layered gumballs.

It’s nice to keep favors simple and you can either opt for little favor boxes or bags to hand out to your guests.

I love these ones Pam from Pamela Smerker Designs made in coordination with our collection. I just popped on one of our party circles and tied on some twine and it is perfect!

I love these goodie bags that is hot in the party shops these days. These ones can be used for taking home left over candy and baked goods. I used these mini wooden clothes pins and a cute favor tag.

I love the look of milk bottles and these I added some jute tape bands I found at a estate sale and some navy pom pom trim from the fabric store. TIP: attach with glue dots! So easy to attache and remove later to not ruin your jars.

Top them with these cute stripy straws and one of our party flags and your guest will be loving all the little touches of personalization!

One of the things I love to do the most is set up special seating areas for guests. Here I set up ottomans with some of my outdoor pillows (purchased last summer at Pier 1 Imports at 65% off!!).

I used one of our trays and just created a new insert to match out party so guests would have a spot to put their drink down. I hung a EASY piece of canvas art I painted on the fence. and your little spot is cozy and complete.

Lastly Michelle of Sweet Threads Clothing Co. made the most adorable onsie to match our collection! A darling addition to hang for party decor and to later gift to the mommy to be.

I hope this has the wheels turning the next time you have a friend expecting a baby! It is super fun and easy to get into this party theme. Even perfect for a birthday!
