{Recipes} Waldorf Salad Apple Bowls

It’s that time of year again where the air turns brisk and apples are in season.  Juicy fresh picked apples are hard to beat and nothing says autumn like a basket full of these bright red beauties.  Serve your apples in style this season with these delicious Waldorf Salad Apple Bowls.Waldorf Salad Apple Bowls

I love this time of year and the charming traditions like apple picking, hay rides and harvest celebrations.  If you are lucky enough to live close to an apple orchard plan an “Apple Picking Party” and then enjoy the fruits of your labor with these tasty Waldorf Salad Apple Bowls.

Apple Bowls

1. Select bright red apples with flat bottoms so the apple will sit up right on the plate.  Apple Basket

2. Slice off the top of the apple and then run a knife around the inner edge of the apple, careful not to slice through the bottom.

3. Next, scoop out the inside of the apple with an ice cream scoop or spoon.  Remove the core and save the flesh for the recipe.  Rub a little bit of lemon juice inside to keep it from turning brown.  Set aside and prepare the recipe (below).

4. Fill the apple bowls with the Waldorf Salad.

5. Garnish with paper flags or ribbon for a festive fall appetizer or dessert.  Enjoy!

Waldorf Salad Recipe

2 cups chopped apples

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1/4 cup chopped celery

1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans, toasted

1/4 cup Craisins

1/4 cup seedless green or purple grapes, halved

1/3 cup Cool-whip

1/4 cup light mayonnaise

ground nutmeg

1. In a medium bowl toss apples with lemon juice.  Add celery, nuts, Craisins, and grapes

2. Fold mayonnaise into the Cool-whip.  Pour mixture into bowl with fruit and gently mix.  Sprinkle with nutmeg.

3. Cover and chill for 2 to 24 hours.  Makes 4-6 side dish servings.

Welcome Fall and A Free Printable!

As soon as Labor day hits I get into the Fall mood. I love fall almost as much as I love Spring. Fall decorating is so refreshing after a summer filled of beach days, swimming and flip flops. This year I will have a fireplace mantel to jazz up and it got me thinking about filling them will some graphic fall prints. I think I will be doing a cluster of frames and putting some fall colored patterned paper in them and then layering this art print I created.

So I want you to have fun to getting ready for the impending season! You can go download your print from our scribed account by clicking the picture. Happy decorating my friends!

Knock Knock . . .Who’s There?

Since we sold our house I am becoming very nostalgic for this place I have called home over the last 6 years. It is hard for me to not especially since this is the home I brought my baby home to. So you may be seeing more posts like this from me over the next few months! A little while back I had Lauren from Ten 23 Designs custom make a decal for our front door.

You may recognize the burlap wreath I made last fall. I adore it and think this will be one of the things I miss the most of this house.

SOOO I will just have to have Lauren make me another! Happy weekend and see you next week lovely friends!!

I’m Holly Moeller, the owner of Paisley Petal Events– a Utah-based event planning business.   I help people plan ANY kind of party… birthday parties, baby showers, missionary farewells & homecomings, company parties, wedding showers, family parties, holiday parties, etc.

I have worked in the finance industry for over 15 years, but in December 2010 I stumbled upon Kim at The TomKat Studio’s blog while searching for some cute printable tags to attach to some Christmas treats.  This little discovery changed my life and I was introduced to the blogging world and specifically party blogs.  I literally did not know what a blog was until then!

I was always the person that volunteered to host bridal and baby showers for my friends so that I could plan all the little details to make the event fun and unique.  Discovering all of the amazing, creative ideas on the web sparked a new passion for me.

In April of 2011 I attended a blogging conference and shortly after, I started my own blog to share with others some unique ideas that can give your celebrations that WOW factor.  People started seeing my work and asking if I would help them plan their parties, so in June of 2011 I created Paisley Petal Events.

My parties have been featured on TLC’s Parentables website, and various party blogs such as Amy Atlas Events, The TomKat Studio, Kara’s Party Ideas, Anders Ruff and more.

Three of Holly’s favorites:
1.shopping
2.Italian food
3.traveling to fun, new places
4.oh and baking…couldn’t limit it to 3!

In the fall of 2009, she took a nine week sewing course with a friend and a new passion evolved! A few months later, she opened her own Etsy shop (Sweet Threads Clothing Co.) and each day it grows more successful. Michele has always had a passion for shopping, fashion, and party planning and has turned that into an unexpected business venture. She is inspired daily by her children and looks forward to growing her business.

Three of Michele’s favorites:
1.favorite time of the year is summer!
2.loves spending time with family
3.lazy days at the beach and pool

Her many loves include working in her garden, reading good books, coffee dates with friends, playing in the park with her three-year-old, and fresh flowers (though not necessarily in that order). Her happy place is the beach, as long as she remembers to bring along an SPF of at least 45, and listens to Pandora radio for at least three hours a day.

I am a mother of two very energetic kids that keep my life full of adventure! I have been decorating cakes for over 5 years now and had my own little business called Sweeten Your Day Events. Cupcakes are still my favorite treats to eat after all these years! After having my second child, I decided to take a break and focus on my children more. Last year I started an online cupcake and cake topper business through Etsy that I love!

One of the fun things about having kids is celebrating them! I enjoy throwing a party for any and every occasion! Luckily I have a sweet husband that puts up with it and tries to help out when and  where he can. I absolutely love to craft and create! I think that adding your own personal touch to things makes that event extra special and lasting memories. I am so excited to share fun tips and projects with everyone, and hope to inspire and bring joy to all your life events!

 Three of Jen’s favorites:
1.color – sky blue
2.food – pretty much anything that is deep fried
3.movie of all time – The Princess Bride

So here they are and Holly will be kicking us off with her first features post tomorrow. I think I am as excited as you are to see what all these ladies will be posting about. Pop on over to each of their blogs too to follow along with their daily doses of inspiration.
