Hostess With The Mostess Launch Party Recap

There have been so many fabulous posts on the Wonderlandia event by Hostess With The Mostess that at this point you need to go HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE to get the details and great table scape shots of the party. But I wanted to recap a big night for me for meeting all these wonderful ladies I have been blogging and communicating with over the last 2-1/2 years. I adore and admire each one and there are so many more fabulous ladies I got to meet but did not get a picture with. So sad!

I was so lucky to find out that Elizabeth from Bump Smitten was going to BlogHer just like me so we were able to go to some classes together and then the HWTM party. Here she is on the right with Marie from Sweets Indeed. Little did I know Marie actually lives 15 minutes from me!

I have admired and loved Lindi from Love The Day (on the left) for a long time now. She is a talented designer and such a sweet soul. Here she is chatting it up with Jillian from Catch My Party. Jillian and I have such a fun friendship and first met at Bloggy Bootcamp last March. Every time I see her it feels like it is a long lost friend. She has some great new things happening to her site and you have to check it out.

Next I was so excited to meet Nancy from A to Zebra Celebrations and Chris from Celebrations At Home. I am in awe of all Nancy accomplishes and if you haven’t heard yet she just started a new site called My Party Is Over. It is dedicated to resale party supplies. I am going to be adding somethings shortly to her site to sell so I will let you all know when I do.

Chris from Celebrations at Home is so genuine and sweet. I was so excited to just give her a hug and thank her for continually inspiring me daily. Her site was one of the first ones I first started following so I was a little star struck meeting her. But she immediately put me at ease and I got to gab with her about the direction of our businesses. Gotta love a little business with fun!

Next I could not wait to meet Paige from Paiges of Style. I adore her and her site. She is a fellow interior designer/ now party stylist and I really relate to her style and design sense. I can tell she and I could do some serious damage shopping! She is full of energy and is so warm and embracing. I LOVE her and can not wait to get our kids together to play.

Thank you to Jen Sbranti from Hostess With The Mostess for putting together such an extraordinary event. She is such an amazing designer, business woman, and sweet soul. It is very exciting watching the direction of her new site and I love being a part of the HWTM community. You can pop over HERE to visit me over there.

Where Am I?

Well today I am at Blogher in San Diego. I am SO excited and nervous. I mean this thing is huge! So as I maneuver myself around here and pop in to the Queen Bee Market to check out The Pleated Poppy and many other very cool vendors, I wanted to say a quick hello!

Oh and tonight I will be meeting many of my bloggy friends to help Jenn of Hostess With The Mostess celebrate the launch of her fabulous new site. Have you checked it out yet? You can literally shop and find all the best industry professionals with a few easy clicks. She makes it so simple and fun!!

I will be back next week with a recap of all I learned and fun pictures from the party tonight!

Pinterest LA Meet Up

Last Thursday I attended the Pinterest Los Angeles Meet Up hosted by Urbanic Paper Boutique. I had no idea what to expect but I was very curious to see what the latest and hottest site was up too and meet some of the behind scenes players running this uber cool site. They definitely did not disappoint!

First of all I am in love with Urbanic.

It is a darling paper store located on Abbot Kinney and has some of the most darling and original stationary/greeting cards/fun trinkets/etc that you can find.Audrey also has a cool blog dedicated to all things paper and if you are obsessed with paper like me then you will LOVE reading Parcel Post! How cute is this cupcake mobile that they had hanging above their cash wrap?!

When we first got there we had our picture taken and got pinned to the board. Very cool idea to see who was there.

We settled in with a glass of wine.

And took a look at the darling photo bunting they had hanging up.

Then it was time to meet the brains behind the scenes. Lucky for us we got there early and were able to meet Ben. Ben is one of the co-founders and every time you get one of those fun emails letting you know someone is following you or someone has repinned something of yours he is the one telling you! Behind the scenes fun fact is that Ben and his partner had started another site that ended up not working out. But there was one thing they stumbled on that was the foundation of Pinterest. They were creating these boards (fashion directed) and people loved them. They knew they were on to something and especially for the creative minds out there to collect images in a online organized way. Little did they know people like me would use them as an online portfolio and to visually show clients ideas for their own projects. I dont know about you but I have had binders for years (for each room of the house) stuffed full of magazine clippings. With Pinterest they can be organized in the same way and also link to their origins. Brilliant!

Now this is Enid. You NEED to know her. Besides be super sweet and easy to talk to, she is the communications director. She is a Pasadena area girl originally (she went to Art Center for fashion) and now is one of 7 people making Pinterest run. She is the one who accepts your requests to join Pinterest. Yep thats her. AND she is resident cheerleader. She sends her team those pump you up emails to get them through their busy crazy weeks. Enid said she loves being busy and thrives off of seeing how many people are wanting to join the site. So keep em coming!

But the highlight was meeting other pinners and hearing what they love to pin and meeting some other bloggers. Like Joy from Oh Joy. Okay I felt a little lame as I had not been following her and after hearing what she writes about I wanted to kick myself for not following her site sooner. She is a graphic artist that just moved out to the silverlake area and she knows ALL the best restaurants, has darling and original art sources (take a look at the hand made baby blocks made for her baby announcement), and is an amazing graphic artist. My friend Lynde who went with me was over the moon to meet and greet her and get me caught up on what I have been missing. So if you are one of the last people (like me!) to follow Joy, head over to her blog Oh Joy and you will be in heaven.

So I know many of you have asked if there will be other meet ups and I sure hope there will. Pinterest is based on Palo Alto, California and I am sure they are going to be spreading like wild fire if not already.

If you still have not joined Pinterest, leave your email address below and I will send you an invite. Happy Pinning!!

What I Learned At Bloggy Bootcamp-Part 1

BBCSD sharing cards

(Me with Nina of Momma Go Round)

Last weekend I was fortunate to attend Bloggy Bootcamp in San Diego. BBC is put on by the SITS girls. If you don’t know them you need to!! They are the foundation of support for mom bloggers and they are 2 of the most amazing, funny, and beautiful (Yes Tiffany you are stunning!) out there!! BBC is a day long event of speakers hand chosen to speak on the topics that are most important to women bloggers, beginning businesses and learning about the power of social media. Okay I knew it was powerful but walked away with a whole new retrospect of what is really before us in business. So besides meeting my posse of party girls (we will get to that a little later), here are the top 5 things I learned this weekend (boy was it hard to narrow it down to just these!) WARNING-Long post! Sorry!!

1. How important it is to have a voice and use pictures to tell a story- Thank you Ashley of Little Ms Momma!!! It is amazing how visual people are and everyone loves beautiful pictures. Pictures can speak a thousand words (I know we have all heard that one before!) so maybe you will be seeing some posts from me in the future that are just pictures. Having a voice that is you and unique is important to build the trust capital between you and your readers. It is funny you really CAN tell when someone is being sincere or not and if the way they are writing is really who they are. I know some days I feel not so up in the clouds and guess what this is not going to turn into a negative blog but I think you just might see that a little more. I think it may just bring us all closer. What do you think??

2.To Vlog or not to Vlog- that is the question. Okay Mama Mary- like I said in the elevator- BRING IT ON! You just might be seeing some vlogging going on here. I am actually trying to think what my first one might just be. I had no idea Ytube was as large of a social media outlet as it is. I mean come on. I really thought it was for people to post cute videos of their kids or stupid tricks on scateboards. but for business? Mary talked to us about how to create one of these little bad boys and how it increases your SEO. So stay tuned on this one people!

3. You must BRAND yourself before someone else does (from the fabulous Amy BHole). I never thought of it this way. I actually wonder what my brand is in the eyes of you all. Well, I am hoping to solidify this on Monday with the new site reveal! This is where we learned how important trust capital is over social capital. Its great to have a lot of followers (hey I LOVE getting new people on here), but if you dont have your readers trust then who cares if there are followers- they just become a number. Okay so let me say it right here everyone on here is NOT a number and I love when people comment and tell me what they think. I hope we get more of that going soon!!

BBCSD Lisa speaking

4. The power of networking. I was so inspired by Lisa Leonard. She is so sweet, down to earth, and genuine! And her products, blog, and website speak volumes of this. She talked about building a story with your products and have it incorporate yourself and inspirations. How joining forces with those around you can further this vision to your readers. She spoke of knowing your weaknesses and hiring them out. Boy did I love hearing this one. She gave an example of how she was spending 7 hours on a Saturday packing and getting ready all the shipments and how she was missing out on that time with her family. She hired a high school student to help and it made her life so much easier. Oh how I could have listened to her go on and on!!

5. Be prepared to be able to accept new endeavors that may come your way. Never thought of this one as I thought how can you prepare for something you have no idea is going to happen. Francesca of SITS talked about media kits and what they include. It is like almost always having an up to date resume on hand to email to anyone who would ask. I never knew people made these who had blogs in case an opportunity should arise.

If you have stayed with me this long through this post then you are a rock star and you will be rewarded with a few pictures. But not until later today! It will be a fun post of all the people I met and some fun group shots of us party girls.

So stay tuned until this afternoon . . .
