{BN Black Book of Parties} Pumpkin County Fair Birthday

Rebekah spotted this fabulous party that Wendy of Wendy Updegraff Photography created for her daughter that was turning 9…it’s spectacular! With Bella’s birthday right in the middle of fall, the theme for the party was a Pumpkin County Fair, complete with carnies, pony rides, popcorn, balloon artists, games and so much more!

It all started with this beautiful invitation created by the amazingly talented Loralee Lewis. As reflected in the invitation and throughout the party, the colors of orange, pink and black were used to create the feminine look of the party.

Wendy and her mother made all of the beautiful decorations throughout the event (wow!). Some of my favorite details include the darling paper & ribbon medallions, the wood directional sign, the carnival ticket chains, Wendy’s son Preston dressed perfectly as a carnie complete with a popcorn carrier and so many more!

Classic carnival activities for the guests included pony rides, a balloon artist, bobbing for apples, donuts on a string, bean bag toss, smash a can and sack races.

Wendy created 3 separate tables to display the various food and drinks. Each is beautiful. I love the various coordinating fabrics used as tablecloths, runners and backdrops and the tissue paper fan backdrop using pretty oranges and pinks really catches your eye.

Guests each took home a delicious candy apple packaged so perfectly.

I absolutely love Bella’s outfit with coordinating jewelry and hair accessory!

Wendy, this is one of the most amazing birthday parties I’ve seen and it looks like everyone such a wonderful time! Thanks for letting us share with our fabulous readers!

Our Spooktacular Halloween Mantel

Today I wanted to share some of my personal Halloween decor in our home. I love that our new house has this great fireplace and it is the focal point of our family room.

I think it is fun each year to pull out the things you have had put away for a year and create something new. Most of the time I use what I already own and maybe at the end of the season I will hit up the sales at the craft stores for the following year. This year I definitely got crafty and made my own Boo burlap banner. Draped across the mantel with a black cheesecloth and I think it gave it a little something special this year.

I always have these great vases on either side (do you remember them from our Christmas Wish party last year??). I simply jazzed them up with some foliage and some pumpkins.

I had this old frame sitting around with no back. I have been thinking I am going to paint it but for now I used a old scrap of fabric and some foam core and created a new back. Pinned in some flowers from Hobby Lobby and I have a new piece of art.

You know how I feel about Mercury Glass! I have a little collection going now and I love clustering the pieces together.

Layered with other elements breaks up the monotony of them all.

Some of them are candles and I love their pretty glow at night.

I sneak peeked this little guy on Instagram. He is too cute huh? A long ago purchase from Homegoods.

I always have greenery around somewhere (though most of the time it is not real!) These cute little boxwoods are throughout my house.

Lastly, at the bottom of my fireplace I have a cluster of pumpkins – silver, orange and white popping out of a basket. Maybe next year I will paint these . . .and on the other side these topiaries I have had forever.

So there you have it. Our little nook in the family room. Next up – our front door! and maybe a seasonal cocktail recipe. What do you think?

A Boo-rific Halloween Party!

I am excited today to finally share with you our NEW Boo-rific table for Halloween. We having been sharing so many fabulous Halloween ideas like the blue pumpkins and our Halloween Terrarium and today I wanted to move on to the main event. This year I wanted to create a adult/child friendly party. I think when our kids are little, we have to go to so many parties and I don’t know about you but I would like a little something for me! So I filled a table with store bought treats and tasty drinks and goodies for all.

The beauty of this table is it was all done on a budget! The most expensive things purchased was the Cinderella and Fairy Tale pumpkins. But we of course reused them for the front of our door area. The sweet little owl (who will live in my home now!) was from the $1 bins at Target. The black decorative frame was also from Target and the white vase in the middle was from Marshalls. Too easy right?! Most of our tasty treats were purchased at the grocery store too.

These oreo cakesters are a fan favorite! They look just like woopie pies but they come in a box. My kind of treat!

Our ghost cookies also came from the store! Put in a pail from the $1 bins from Target with a little moss stuffing and some gumballs, tied with one of our party tags and you are done! A great party favor for little hands to take home.

I made some “Green Goblin Goo” in some antique jello molds. I swear jello molds need to make a resurgence! I think they are so pretty and a little different to display treats and snacks.

These darling owl chocolate lollipops by FunFavors are almost too cute to eat! I think my daughter ate 3 of them off the bat. Mixed in with Salted Caramel Cake Pops from Starbucks and displayed in these birch lollipop stands by Cross My Love and your guests can not resist. TIP – get plenty of back up of these tasty treats!

Party flags are quick becoming a staple to any party decorations. We started offering them with all our party packages this last year. Displayed in a fun container, they can really make your table pop.

Fun colored drinks to match your party are a fun way to tie in your color scheme. These orange crush sodas were just perfect wrapped with our custom bottle wraps.

And we can not forget our cupcakes! These red velvet cupcakes were from our local grocery store. When I do not have time to make my own (which is sadly often) I head right to the bakery department.

TIP – For dressing up store bought cupcakes

:: Pop in a cupcake topper to adorn the top
:: Use a fun patterned paper to wrap around the wrapper. These we used our coordinating printable cupcake wrappers.
:: Label it! I love using food table cards to let guests know what is on the menu.

Some perfectly placed popcorn cones amongst our pumpkins completed our treats!

To-Go boxes wrapped with a bow are the perfect way to send your guests home with any treats left over.

Design Elements to Recreate

:: Moss covered styrofoam block
:: Drape cheesecloth above the table for visual interest
:: Attached chevron goodie bags to branch display using wooden paper clips
:: Create a banner using paper fans from Party City. Use glue dots to attach printable party banner from our shop!

Our Boo-rific Halloween party printable decorations are in the shop now!
