{DIY Tutorial} Thanksgiving Thankful Board

Jen here from Sweeten Your Day and I love this time of year! Between the changes in the season and the upcoming holidays it is so hard not to be excited! Time is just flying so fast around here and Thanksgiving is right around the corner. I love doing little holiday traditions with my kids. I think it gets them excited but also helps them remember the reason for the actual celebration. This year we are doing a Thankful Thanksgiving Board.

Here is what you will need:

any frame and size- I reused one that I had
spray paint (optional in your choice of color)
poultry netting (chicken wire from IFA or Home Depot)
wire cutters
hot glue gun
ribbon/clothespins, banner (optional)

First you will spray paint your frame. I was going to spray mine black but once I printed ABN’s NEW Thanksgiving Collection banner and tags I thought the original vintage color and design of the frame would look even better!

Next cut the chicken wire so that it fits securely in the back of your frame.

The wire bends fairly easy, but it is MUCH easier to work with if you flatten the wire before. I would recommend placing it under books or something for a couple hours to a day, then stretch and work it with your hands as needed.

One the back side of the frame, glue down one side of the wire with your hot glue gun.  When the glue has hardened, you will be able to pull the rest the wire tight and secure to the other sides of the frame with more hot glue.

Now you can accent your frame however you like! The Thanksgiving Collection is just lovely! The colors are so crisp and vibrant! I laced some dark brown ribbon through the banner and tags. Each day until Thanksgiving we are going to add tags for what we are thankful for.

My youngest can’t write yet but likes to pretend :) So we just let her scribble then translate what she is grateful for.

I am so excited and can’t wait to see what they all come up with each day! You can check out ABN’s Thanksgiving Collection as well as Rebekah’s many other fabulous products.

Warm wishes and hope you all have a yummy Thanksgiving!

Pretty As a Pumpkin!

I wanted to leave you this weekend with a lovely picture I found via Instagram from HGTV. These gorgeous blue pumpkins would be perfect for my family room and are in these beautiful shades creating an ombre look. I think I am loving the non-orange trend I have been seeing this year! Happy weekend everyone and see you back here Monday.

{Recipes} Waldorf Salad Apple Bowls

It’s that time of year again where the air turns brisk and apples are in season.  Juicy fresh picked apples are hard to beat and nothing says autumn like a basket full of these bright red beauties.  Serve your apples in style this season with these delicious Waldorf Salad Apple Bowls.Waldorf Salad Apple Bowls

I love this time of year and the charming traditions like apple picking, hay rides and harvest celebrations.  If you are lucky enough to live close to an apple orchard plan an “Apple Picking Party” and then enjoy the fruits of your labor with these tasty Waldorf Salad Apple Bowls.

Apple Bowls

1. Select bright red apples with flat bottoms so the apple will sit up right on the plate.  Apple Basket

2. Slice off the top of the apple and then run a knife around the inner edge of the apple, careful not to slice through the bottom.

3. Next, scoop out the inside of the apple with an ice cream scoop or spoon.  Remove the core and save the flesh for the recipe.  Rub a little bit of lemon juice inside to keep it from turning brown.  Set aside and prepare the recipe (below).

4. Fill the apple bowls with the Waldorf Salad.

5. Garnish with paper flags or ribbon for a festive fall appetizer or dessert.  Enjoy!

Waldorf Salad Recipe

2 cups chopped apples

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1/4 cup chopped celery

1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans, toasted

1/4 cup Craisins

1/4 cup seedless green or purple grapes, halved

1/3 cup Cool-whip

1/4 cup light mayonnaise

ground nutmeg

1. In a medium bowl toss apples with lemon juice.  Add celery, nuts, Craisins, and grapes

2. Fold mayonnaise into the Cool-whip.  Pour mixture into bowl with fruit and gently mix.  Sprinkle with nutmeg.

3. Cover and chill for 2 to 24 hours.  Makes 4-6 side dish servings.

Happy Fall Y'all

Welcome Fall and A Free Printable!

As soon as Labor day hits I get into the Fall mood. I love fall almost as much as I love Spring. Fall decorating is so refreshing after a summer filled of beach days, swimming and flip flops. This year I will have a fireplace mantel to jazz up and it got me thinking about filling them will some graphic fall prints. I think I will be doing a cluster of frames and putting some fall colored patterned paper in them and then layering this art print I created.

So I want you to have fun to getting ready for the impending season! You can go download your print from our scribed account by clicking the picture. Happy decorating my friends!
