Candy Jar Filler Tutorial

Candy Buffets are all the rage and a great way to add pops of color to your party.  But, candy can get expensive when you are filling large jars or containers.  Don’t blow your budget on candy, follow my easy Candy Jar Filler Tutorial to save money on your next event.

1. Gather your supplies.  You will need a large jar, candy and a paper towel roll.

2. Wrap the paper towel roll in white paper (or other color coordinated paper) and seal off the top with a paper towel to create a hollow area.

3. Start adding your candy, filling it in around the paper towel.

4.  Layer each color of candy until the paper towel roll is covered.

5.  Add lollipops to create a fun display

Add a little extra sweetness to your next event with a creative candy buffet or display, without breaking the bank!

Project Nursery/Big City Moms {Event Recap} Owl Baby Shower Table

Wow it has already been a few weeks now since the Biggest Baby Shower event put on by the fabulous ladies of Big City Moms. Time sure flies!

I have some fabulous event photos to share with you and to hopefully inspire you for the next baby shower you hold.

As I told you before, I came up with a “Look Who’s Coming” theme featuring these 2 gorgeous faux bois owls.We selected a color pallet of turquoise with shots of hot pink and I ended up throwing in a soft tan color. I enlisted the help of some of the most amazing ladies in the industry and I swear they truly made me look good!

Our sweets table display.

The crazy fabulous furniture from Petitnest.

The “hit of the party” was this little guy.

He as well as the coordinating circle band around the cake and cupcake toppers were made by the amazingly talented Brittany of Edible Details. I am telling you if you have not worked with her yet – you HAVE TOO! She is a dream. She gets my vision every time and then blows me away when her package arrives. Our little owl weighed a ton (I had asked her to make him a little bigger than normal since I really wanted him to stand out). I had originally had the plan of sticking the manzanita branch (a part of it!) on top of the cake and him sitting in front. Well the branch was pretty hard to snap a part and it was really too lovely to destroy like that. SO Melisa (Project Nursery) and I kicked around many ideas. And this is what we decided on. Sitting a moss ball behind him and creating a organic visual display with him. I LOVE how it turned out and just proves that sometimes not having a plan forces you to get creative and push your creative juices.

I found these slab slices on Savon-Cratfs.com and fell in love with them. Something different to use rather than platters. Same for these boxes that had these fabulous owl marshmallow pops in them. Have you ever seen marshmallow pops with so much detail??! Alejandra of The Marshmallow Studio even teaches classes to share her brilliance. This girl creates shear art, I swear!

I was introduced to Maria of The Gourmet Cake Pop by Tonya of Soiree Event Design. Can I tell you I can not believe she is so close and I have never worked with her before. Her cake pops are divine and were being gobbled up by not only all the expectant moms but us too! They were SO good.

Of course I had to have lots of candy! Salt water taffy, sixlets, rock candy and pearlized gumballs were displayed in milk glass and apothecary jars.

The fabulous faux bois owls that were the inspiration for this table:

Also the yummy cookies by Lisa of The Cookie Jar. These were displayed next to Petitnest’s glider so mommies could gobble them down (and that they did!) while rocking away.

My brand new lucite trays made a debut too! Sweet Tiffani Thiessen even modeled one for me.

I created a exclusive design to go right along with the owl collection. If you were the host of this shower then you could use the tray for the shower and gift the the expectant mom as a keep sake.

I was also able to create a few goodies for the ladies of BCM.

I had so much fun hanging with the ladies of Project Nursery and Petitnest.

As you can see Nicole was there too! I dont think I go anywhere without her! Well it’s simply because she is the best- photographer and friend!

I even had the opportunity to talk for a quick minute with Soleil Moon Frye.

The party printables for his collection will be available for purchase but you will have to wait and see where!

{Operation Shower} Sunshine Safari- Part 2

I thought today I would recap my own table top design to give you a little more insight on my inspiration and AMAZING vendors I used.

As I mentioned yesterday, Abigail from Paper and Cake designed some pretty fabulous printable paper decorations for us to use.

I was trying to think of non-traditional ways to use these and I think I might of accomplished that!

Pottery Barn Kids gave each of use a $250 credit to use for our table top designs. I just fell in love with the baby rattles right off the bat. To be honest I had selected one to use as a napkin wrap and it ended up being sold out from the holidays. But I think this one was darling sitting on the napkins with the fondant animals by Edible Details (more on those below).

The next item I selected was this wire elephant. LOVE him! I tied a big ribbon bow on him and had him nestled and sitting on top of this old box from my dad.

Lastly, I choose to spread around the table the alphabet wood blocks. They are so classic and timeless in themselves and I felt they really added to the overall animal theme.

Brittany from Edible Details made the most amazing fondant 3D animals to sit at each place setting. I asked her to make them in the colors of the printables but to take it a step farther and add some more defined characteristics to them. I not only placed them at each place setting but had them sitting on the PBK blocks. She also made little leafs that were hanging from the rims of each glass.

I think they MADE the table!

Next I knew I wanted to use Abigail’s favor boxes on the backs of the chairs. I think I might have come up with that idea before I even knew what I was going to do with the rest of the table. I found these raffia fans from Oriental Trading Company and the safari animals in the $1 bins at Target. The ribbon was left over from Lauren’s Butterfly party (yah, I hold onto things that long!). And this is what I got when I was done:

I am such a interior designer way of thinking in the way that I can not start a design without selecting the fabric first. It is a religion for me in the design field. A way I have always started my projects. So over the holiday break I swear I spent HOURS looking for the right fabric. I really did not want to use something that had animals on it (more afraid I would pick something someone else had than anything) and actually had thought an ikat print would be what I wanted. But after an endless search I could not find one that was bright and cheerie without breaking the bank. THEN I discovered Fat Quarter. Have you ever been on Kimberly’s site? It is my new favorite place to shop for fabrics. She has such a wide assortment and very reasonably priced. And of course I settled on something kind of unconventional and a little non-safari related. But that was what I liked about it. Kind of unexpected. I selected this Kate Spain fabric for Moda Fabrics called Terrain Bloom Dahlia.

It went perfectly with Paper and Cake’s printables.

Next I went and did a little shopping- in my house. I had bought these black and white chevron napkins because  . . .well just because! Honestly when I pre-set up the table at my house I used them as stand ins. I had selected a lime green solid linen from the rental company. They just kept catching my eye though. And the more I looked at them sitting on top of the fabric from Fat Quarter, I loved it. So I brought them with me to see if Amy would let me use my own napkins instead of the rental ones. Ask me where I got them! TARGET for $3. I now want to use them for everything.

Some other items from around the house- the milk glass compotes, mercury glass apothecary jar, mercury glass candle holders, and wood crate.

My next go to place was Homegoods. LOVE that place. I swear I always find stuff. The world globe, wood giraffe and  twig balls were purchased there.

Lastly the large lantern in the middle of the table was gotten from Ikea. I have been wanting these for awhile so it was the perfect excuse to nab them.

I really wanted the middle of the table to look like a world traveler that was on a safari adventure. I hope thats what I got!

I can not wait for the next Operation Shower event to be a part of. It is truly a moving experience. If you missed it from yesterday HERE is the recap post of the event.

{Operation Shower} Sunshine Safari- Part 1

This post and tomorrows post ( Part 1 & Part 2 for tomorrow!) is SO long in coming and I can not believe that it has been over a month already since Operation Shower. I was so honored to be selected as one of 11 designers to participate in this event in San Diego. Abigail from Paper & Cake designed gorgeous Safari inspired party printable decorations for us all to use and we were given a $250 credit to Pottery Barn Kids to  for our table top design. Tomorrow I will go over my table top design in more detail. But today I wanted to share my overall experience (as shared on Celebrations At Home a few weeks ago) since it was so memorable for me!

On Monday I think we were all chanting “rain rain go away”. It was SO cold too. But that didn’t stop us. . .at least for a little while.  Tori from Thoughtfully Simple’s table was getting weathered by the wind and rain. She and Sharon from Cupcakes And Cutlery were the first to stop battling the wind and rain coming into the tent and onto their tables and finally so did the rest of us.

Thankfully the next day was clear and sunny.  We all got their nice and early to reset up our tables and put on the finishing touches. I swear I barley had time to finish my table before the moms were showing up! But each of these amazing designers helped each other on their tables to tie up any and all loose ends.

The tables were fabulous to say the least. I will let the pictures speak for themselves.

The sweets table by Marie of Sweets Indeed was UNBELIEVABLE! She truly knocked this out of the park. And that cake! Oh that cake! Hey There, Cupcake! is SUCH a talent. Take a look at her amazing table.

The day ended up being a very emotional day not only for the mommies but for us as well seeing the joy it all brought to them. Pottery Barn Kids was amazing in their generosity and among many other things ended up giving each mom a brand new crib. Oh you should have seen their faces!

I am so blessed to have had this opportunity and to have meet the people who made this event possible. Thank you to Amy Belle Isle and LeAnn Morrissey for creating an opportunity for us to honor the families who’s husbands, brothers, and sons defend our country.
