{DIY Tutorials} Hat Box Cupcake Tower

Hello again! Jen here from Sweeten Your Day Events! I am back to share another fun tutorial with you all. This week I am going to show you how to make these adorable and SUPER easy cupcake towers that you can customize to fit your party style.

Materials:

Hat Boxes (or any other sturdy and smooth cardboard box) – Michaels, Joann, Hobby Lobby, or most craft stores.

Decorative Paper to fit your design/style/theme

Decorative Edge Scissors

Tape

Tips: I found a jumbo roll of wrapping paper that matched our invites that we used and wrapping paper is usually pretty inexpensive.  Also various box sizes are great to add height and variety.

Step One: Line the top side of your box (it is now going to be the bottom side of your stand) on the edge of the paper and mark  how tall it is.

Continue drawing your line for the length of paper you will need to wrap around the box.

Tip: Some styles of wrapping paper now have grids on the back (mine didn’t) which makes it super easy for cutting straight lines.

Step Two: Take your decorative edge scissors and cut about a half inch to an inch above your line to give it a little bit of a lip above the edge of where your box will be.

Step Three: Wrap your box. Remember to keep the open part of your box at the base of the paper. Tape one end of the paper to the box to hold in place. Then roll/wrap.

The other end should overlap just slightly to cover the whole thing and tape together.

Step Four: Stand your box (open side down….) and you are done with one. Repeat and stack!

You can stack as many as you like to achieve the look you want. I went with a taller box for the base to give it some height, and then a slightly shorter box on top to give it some variety.

Step Five: Fill with cupcakes!

Tip: For standard size cupcakes, you will want a 4″ difference in box sizes for each tier to fit cupcakes all the way around (ex: for a 3 tier cupcake stand:  bottom tier – 14″ box, middle tier – 10″ box, top tier – 6″ box). For mini size cupcakes a 2″ difference in box sizes for each tier will work.

Now that your stand is all filled with cupcakes you can take a step back and enjoy your hard work, and eat a cupcake!

Thanks for checking out our hat box cupcake tower tutorial. Another great thing about this is you can take the paper off and re-wrap for another theme, the versatility is really endless! Minnesota Spring Shopping Boutique

Hey guys, it’s Michelle here, and I’m so excited to share the course of events from this weekend!  I’ve never talked so much about fairies and circuses, that’s for sure!  Friday I set up our new Fairy and Circus collection at a Spring boutique here in the Twin Cities and the reception was unbelievable!  I loved seeing the faces of everyone as they stood there and stared, which made me realize that not everyone’s life has been taken over by party blogs and most women don’t lie awake at night thinking of how to design their next get together!  But luckily, that’s where we jump in!  After wrapping up Friday’s event, I was asked to set up the display at another Spring showcase on Sunday…so I packed up the goodies and headed to the other side of town to, once again, talk about fairies and circuses!  I had a great weekend, made some great contacts and can’t wait to start working on the upcoming parties that were booked!

Circus Party: Colors were red, turquoise and a pale yellow.  We had limited space at this event, but you should be able to tell what we used if you were to spread everything apart!

A big thank you to Mary from Cookies & Cakes by Mary who did a spectacular job on these circus cookies with only 4 days notice!  The details on them were amazing and the colors went perfectly!

Trust me, they were yummy!

These popcorn cupcakes were one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen.  The kids who came by also chose this as their favorite part of the display! So easy to do and were a great conversation starter!

I loved the combo of these colors…it gave such a vibrant, happy feel!

You can’t have a Circus party without cotton candy!  For future reference though, cotton candy doesn’t sit out well.  Over time it will shrink and become very hard, so make sure it’s one of the last things you put out on your table if you want it to last.

Fairy Party:  Colors used were pink, green and red.  I wanted to make it seem completely girly with the tutu ribbon around the cake, cookie wands and soft pink cupcakes.  The pixy dust was a cute add on to decorate their cupcakes…why not add more sparkle?!

Once again, Mary from Cookies & Cakes by Mary are to credit for these adorable fondant mushrooms on top of the Fairy cake as well as the wand cookies you’ll see below.

Little girls’ eyes got wide at these fairy wand cookies.  I’m surprised they all stayed on the table!

We loved creating these two parties and are excited to announce that they’re ready in our Etsy shop!

Gingerbread Cupcakes

Ugh! I have been sick all last week and have so much catch up to do. First and for most here is the recipe I promised for the gingerbread cupcakes I made for the Doudian Annual Holiday Party. I decorated them with the Let It Snow cupcake toppers but my daughter was having a melt down (she was the first of us all to get sick) and I had to leave quickly. Bummer! But I think they turned out yummy and I will make another batch for Christmas!

**Ingredients
3/4 cup of flour
2 tsp ground ginger
3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1 piece of preserved ginger, chopped
3/4 tsp baking soda
4 tbsp milk
6 tbsp butter, softened
1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 tbsp molasses
2 eggs, lightly beaten

**Directions
-preheat oven to 325F
-Sift flour, ground ginger, and cinnamon together into a bowl. Add the chopped ginger and toss in the flour mixture until well coated. In a separate bowl, dissolve the baking soda in the milk.
-Put the butter and sugar in a bowl and beat together until fluffy. Beat in the molasses, then gradually add the eggs, beating well after each addition. Beat in the flour mixture, then gradually beat in the milk. Spoon the batter into cupcake pan.
-Bake for 20 minutes

Princess Addison’s Party

Right now I am designing party decorations for a little one named Addison who is turning 2. Her mom, Jonique, contacted me through my Etsy boutique and sent me this picture for inspiration.

She is doing a pink, green, ivory, and brown color theme. So these are the cupcake toppers so far that I have come up with. Hopefully Jonique will share pictures of Addison’s birthday party that I can post for you!

Hope you all have a great weekend!
